Rhythmic Structure

Pig Rock Bothy, Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art

Edinburgh

2015

Rhythmic Structure is the result of a five month residency at Edinburgh College, Granton which took place from September 2014 to January 2015. During the residency Duffy carried out research into Oskar Schlemmer’s Das Triadische Ballett and the collaborative work of Merce Cunningham, John Cage, Jasper Johns and Robert Rauschenberg.

To mark the end of the residency Duffy was invited to exhibit at Pig Rock Bothy at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh. The public were able to traverse the space, walking on top of the screen printed floor piece that was installed within the bothy.

The installation at Pig Rock Bothy finished with a performance by dancers from Edinburgh College’s Performing Arts Studio Scotland course. The dancers took part in a mini-residency within the bothy. Over the four days they choreographed a piece that was inspired by the installation.

A special thank-you to the dancers: Olga Kay, Ana Norrie, Emma Smith and Amy Stevenson.
